heads down,
clutching starbucks
to keep their fragile fingers
animated in their omnipresent conversation.
their words fill the stationary air and
continue to absorb the limited area of the world.

they do not divert their eyes
from their hands,
from their phones,
from their work.
too busy to greet another pedestrian,
too egotistical to care.

that is the way of the people.
